It’s always frustrating to witness a UEFA Champions League (UCL) competition where a long-anticipated event sees a team crowned champions before reaching their peak. Real Madrid, without intending offense, has often fit this description.
The UEFA Champions League 2024 final held no surprises as Real Madrid asserted their dominance and solidified their status as Europe’s premier team.
The white-clad squad defended their continental throne with a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund at Wembley on June 2, 2024.
Dubbed “La Decimoquinta” meaning “fifteen”, both goals were scored by Real Madrid players in the second half. Dani Carvajal opened the scoring with a header in the 68th minute, followed by Vinicius’s left-foot strike in the 83rd minute.
This significant triumph marked Los Blancos’ 15th UEFA Champions League title since their debut in 1955. Having won six titles in the last decade alone, Madrid also set a record as the undefeated team in UCL finals since 1981.

"It was a difficult game as usual. I am happy, though it feels like a dream," Ancelotti remarked on TNT Sport.
The 64-year-old Italian expressed delight in his team's performance, securing his fifth UCL title as a manager, three of which came with Real Madrid. He attributed his success to the team's stability, emphasizing the positive atmosphere and lack of ego among the players this season.
"We won't be sleeping tonight," he added with a smile.

As challengers, Dortmund initially dominated play, creating several golden opportunities, particularly in the first half.
Ancelotti praised Edin Terzig's squad for their early pressure, though Dortmund failed to convert their chances effectively.
Consequently, they finished as runners-up at Wembley. "Dortmund played better in the first half, but we were superior in the second," Ancelotti noted.
