This unexpected decision shocked the football world, as the season was still ongoing. However, after three months of anticipation, Xavi delivered outstanding performances in the remaining matches.

He navigated 13 consecutive games without losing, prompting him to reverse his earlier decision and continue his contract, which was set to end in 2025.

What influenced the 44-year-old coach to change his mind was the overwhelming support from the Cules (the Barcelona fans) who wanted him to stay.

"I am a huge Barcelona fan and I always strive to do my best for the club because I am a club man," Xavi said, as quoted by AP on April 27, 2024.

"And the support from the Cules made me realize that we must continue the fight," he continued.

The return of the former 2010 World Cup winner was also supported by the club's directors, who had not found an alternative solution if he left.

"Yesterday, I saw great confidence from the directors, from the sporting sector, from the club, and the support from the players was crucial, which made me realize that this project cannot stop now," Xavi added.

The Legacy

Amid all the events, Xavi denied rumors that his dismissal was triggered by his comments about the club's unstable financial situation, which allegedly angered President Joan Laporta.

He revealed that the media misunderstood the situation. Instead, he received support from other internal club members for his efforts during his three years at Camp Nou.

"I don't care about the circulating rumors," said the Spanish coach regarding his supposed clash with Joan Laporta via X (formerly Twitter) Fabrizio Romano. "The president (Laporta) and Deco sent me clear and positive messages.”

It was disheartening to see how FC Barcelona handled Xavi’s managerial career.
