In a bid to reclaim their dominance in European football, Barcelona has appointed Hansi Flick as their new head coach, following the departure of club legend Xavi Hernandez. The German coach is expected to bring his tactical acumen and success with Bayern Munich to the Catalan club. His journey now is to lead Barcelona in a new era of innovation and tradition at Camp Nou.

FC Barcelona has confirmed that Hansi Flick will be their manager for the next season.

The German's arrival fills the vacancy left by Xavi Hernandez, who departed due to poor performance last season after two defeats in El Clasico against Real Madrid and a loss in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) quarter-finals to Paris Saint-Germain.

Flick and the La Liga club have committed to a two-year contract starting with the 2024/2025 season. The official announcement was made by the club on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.

“FC Barcelona and Hansi Flick have reached an agreement for the German to become men’s first team football coach until June 30, 2026,” read a club statement.

“The new coach has signed a contract at the Club’s offices accompanied by FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta; first vice president responsible for the sporting area, Rafa Yuste; and the Club’s sporting director, Anderson Luís de Souza, Deco.”

The purpose of the Catalan club's decision to appoint the former Bayern Munich coach is to return to their golden era alongside addressing public pressure.

This move aligns with the club's goal to reinstate their playing philosophy. Flick’s appointment is backed by the management to achieve that intensity in his new role.

“By bringing Hansi Flick as a coach, FC Barcelona has chosen a man well known for his teams’ high pressing, intense, and style of play, which has brought him great success at both club and international levels,” the statement continued.

The seriousness of last season's runner-up in reconstructing their playing structure is evident. Flick expressed his excitement about taking charge of his new team in a video released by Barcelona on social media.

“I would like to say thank you to everyone. It's a big honor and also a dream for me to sign my contract here, and I'm happy to start,” he said.

Flick's Journey to Barcelona

Since being dismissed from the German national team in September 2023, the 59-year-old coach has decided to take the helm once again.
